The Silent Rainfall…

I was on my way to home when it started raining. The roads were empty and no transport was available. While everybody was enjoying the weather in their house,I was walking down the road with an umbrella in hand. I had walked a few kilometers when my umbrella suddenly broke with the force of the wind. All the shops near by were closed and my phone's battery was also dead. I stood helpless on the road when someone forwarded his hand and sheltered me under his umbrella. As I looked up to see who it was, I turned numb. "I'll drop you home."said the stranger. "No.no it's alright, I'll manage." I replied. "It's raining heavily and its not safe to travel alone at this time. Come, sit in the car." said he. Without saying a word, I sat in the car and we set off towards my home. As I looked out from the glass window, it reminded me of that evening, four years back when it was raining exactly like today. And I was lost in my own world of memories. That day I was hurrying towards my home after college since it had started raining heavily. I was waiting for the bus on the street with that same umbrella in hand, when I saw him approaching towards me."let's walk till your home?"he asked. And I simply nodded. He was getting wet in the rain and so I offered him my umbrella. My heart was now beating faster since he was very close to me.We both were silently walking when he suddenly held my hand.I didn't know how to react thus I remained quiet. That was one of the best days of my life.Walking with him hand in hand in rain, under the same umbrella on a lonely street.Suddenly the umbrella flew from my hand and fell on the road. When I turned back to lift it up, he held my hand and pulled me closer to him. While we were getting drenched in the rain,he slightly tilted my chin and leaned forward to kiss me, only then the stranger shook my hand and dragged me out of my trance. "We've reached your house Shriya."He said. "Thank you Varun." I said, as I stepped out of the car. And once again we parted ways. This is how I bid farewell to the man I loved the most, who is now nothing but a stranger.
